Cheeseburger Nachos, Perfect for Sharing

Sunday in our household means one thing, football. It also means, come half-time, that I have a ravenously hungry husband who may, or may not, be happy about who’s winning. Today’s game is the Jaguars versus the Titans and today’s request is nachos, but not your momma’s nachos…cheeseburger nachos.

Thanks to Pinterest and Kristin Porter, of Iowa Girl Eats, I ran across a great recipe for cheeseburger nachos, that I used as inspiration. Original recipe here:

Today’s ingredients:


1 lb. organic ground turkey

1/2 sweet onion (finely chopped)

1/2 c. grape tomatoes (quartered), or a finely diced tomato

Shredded lettuce (I used about 3/4 c.)

~1 c. shredded cheddar cheese

~1/4 c. diced dill pickle wedges

1 Avocado (sliced), optional

Corn tortilla chips


1000 Island dressing

1/2 tsp. garlic powder with parsley

1/2 tsp. onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste


In a bowl, combine ground turkey, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Transfer mixture to a skillet and brown turkey until it is cooked through. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spread tortilla chips in a single layer. Heat chips in oven (about 3-4 minutes) or until warm.

Once warmed, removed from oven. Drizzle ketchup and 1000 island dressing over tortilla chips (amount based on preference, don’t over-drizzle, the chips will become soggy). Sprinkle cheese over the drizzle and place in oven for 2-3 minutes (or until cheese is melted).

Chip layer

Remove baking sheet from oven, spoon seasoned turkey over the chip layer (I placed the baking sheet back in the oven for ~1-2 minutes to bind the turkey to the melted cheese, this step is optional). Remove nachos from oven, top with desired ingredients, and serve immediately.
